In the years preceding the passage of The Care of Students with Diabetes Act, we were focused on what was going wrong, on what wasn't working. Now that the legislative battle is over, it's time to focus on the good experiences and good examples in schools throughout Illinois.

Starting this year, we will begin publishing success stories and honoring those stand-up staff members and stand-out schools that work to keep our kids safe, healthy and in school.

To nominate an individual, tell us what it is this person does that makes them so special to the students in their care. Be sure to include the staff person's name and title and the name, address and telephone number of the school.

To nominate a school for its leadership and exceptional performance in the care and management of students with diabetes, tell us what this school does that sets it apart and makes such a difference in the lives of its students. Be sure to include the principal's name along with the name, address and telephone number of the school.

Send your nomination to Suzanne@TheCareAct.com by 1/ 31/12. The Illinois Legislative Diabetes Caucus will announce the award winner early in 2012.
